Bio: Matea Nikolac Perkovic is a Research Associate at Rudjer Boskovic Institute (RBI) in Zagreb, Croatia. She obtained her PhD in Biomedicine and Health in 2015 at University Postgraduate Interdisciplinary Doctoral Study of Molecular Biosciences, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek, Croatia. She came to CEMBIO in 2018 as a postdoctoral researcher thanks to an offset project funded by Patria, which involved knowledge and technology transfer through training and instruction of researchers in metabolomics skills, followed by the establishment of a new laboratory for metabolomics at RBI, Zagreb. During her stay at CEMBIO she participated in untargeted metabolomics analysis of plasma samples from oncology patients, subjects diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and subjects with post-traumatic stress disorder, under the supervision of Dr. Coral Barbas (CEMBIO), Dr. Neven Zarkovic (RBI) and Dr. David Rojo (CEMBIO). Her main research interest remains in neuroscience, but, thanks to the experience and knowledge she gained while staying at CEMBIO, her future research and projects will be further enriched by the metabolomic approach to the discovery of biomarkers for psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders.
