Bio: Borja Lanzon obtained his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 2011 from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Immediately, he worked in the private sphere as product technician and broker to test and introduce food products into the Spanish market. After that adventure, he studied the Drug Discovery master’s degree in the course 2013-2014. Thanks to the knowledge acquired during the completion of the master’s degree and the master’s thesis, he developed a great interest in analytical chemistry and its applications. This made it possible for him to join CEMBIO as a PhD candidate for 11 months. During this time, he acquired basic competences in multiplatform metabolomic analysis at CEMBIO, developing a project with translational interest. Since 2016, he is part of the Lipobeta research group of Dr. Gema Medina-Gomez from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, as a PhD candidate and visiting scholar. Currently, he is working with a mice model with partial deletion for the isoform 3 of the Transforming growth factor - β (TGF-β) and in a longitudinal and analytical research on the effect of bariatric surgery in morbid obese patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), insulin resistance and hyperlipidaemia. In order to obtain the most precise map for renal alterations in these models, he is following state of the art techniques such as metabolomics and lipidomics performed as collaborations at CEMBIO and the Systems Medicine group at the Örebro University. He visited Sweden during a three months stay in 2019 supported by EFSD Albert Renold Travel Fellowship grant.
