Web of Science ResearcherID:
Bio: Dr. Deja from Poland is Assistant Professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Center for Human Nutrition, Dallas, TX, US since 2018. He is trained in NMR based metabolomics and metabolic network analysis. Since he joined UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Deja focused on utilization of stable isotope tracers to study metabolism. His primary scientific interests involve quantification of metabolic fluxes using combination of NMR and MS isotopomers. In particular, he focuses on development of new approaches that take advantage of simultaneous use of multiple stable isotope tracers (e.g. 2H and 13C isotopes) to model metabolic networks and allow flux estimation in vivo. Dr. Deja is using these tracer and modeling methodologies to understand regulation of certain hepatic pathways such as: de novo lipogenesis, ketogenesis and gluconeogenesis, and how it is altered by obesity and dietary regimes. Examples of his recent scientific activity involve: development of unified isotopomer model of liver metabolism, determination of the role of pyruvate carboxylase in regulation of hepatic metabolism, and quantitative analysis of ketogenesis in humans with NAFLD. As a result of his research, Dr. Deja is an author and co-author of more than 20 scientific papers including journals such as Cell Metabolism, Metabolic Engineering and Analytical Chemistry. Main achievements: - Principal Investigator: National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) Grant (2020) - Robert A. Welch Postdoctoral Fellow (2014-2017) - Reviewer Board Member of journal Metabolites (2020-present) - Guest Editor in journal: Metabolites (2019-2020) - Essential Researcher at National Center for in vivo Metabolism, Dallas, TX. Academic degrees awarded: B.Eng. and M.S. in Biotechnology (2010), Ph.D. in Chemistry (2014).
